Inclusion Transition Pack

Ready Steady Transition

We are enormously proud of building excellent foundations for our young people’s future careers and whetting their appetites for lifelong learning. This pride is in so much more than examination results, as important as they are. As William Butler Yeats once said “Education is not the filling of a pail but instead the lighting of a fire”. This is the aspiration we have for your children and we hope and pray that we continue to provide fertile earth within which your children will grow and flourish with us. Whichever school or part of the world you are joining us from we are looking forward to meeting you, but first, you might have some questions...please take time to read our transition brochure. It marks the start of the essential partnership between home and school, which forms the foundation of the success that your children will experience with us at St Joseph’s RC High School.

Please click the additional brochures especially created by our Inclusion department on the left for lots more detailed information, introductions and to-do lists.

Let's go virtual instead!

We are so sad you can't enjoy this exciting transition period in person, so here are some messages from Mrs Richard's, your new Head of Year, Mr Humpage, Assistant Headteacher and Mr James, all about rules and regulations with hints and tips about joining us in September. We can't wait to meet you!

Starting High School

Free BBC resources for Induction Day

Starting Secondary School is a new BBC Bitesize campaign aimed at 10-12 year olds, their parents and teachers. With only a few weeks left of their final term at primary school and induction days about to start, this campaign shines a light on the great potential of starting afresh in secondary school. It also offers practical advice and emotional support to help take the stress out of taking the next big step.

Using the highly successful format of peer to peer advice, Starting Secondary School partners with CBBC documentary series Our School to get first-hand experience from children who have made the move and, not only survived but thrived.

There are also tips for parents on how to best support their children emotionally and practically, as well as expert advice on topics such as bullying and online safety.

On BBC Teach there are bespoke classroom clips and resources, in partnership with YoungMinds, that can be used as part of a discussion around transition as well as case studies of schools from across the UK that have interesting transition projects.
