Governors
St Joseph's RC High School is a voluntary-aided school. This means that while it is a state-funded, maintained school within the local authority of Newport, the Archdiocese of Cardiff and Menevia is the trustee who owns the buildings. As a result, the Governing Body of St Joseph's, acting on behalf of the trustees, are the employing authority of the school, not the local authority.
Our Governing Body is made up of Foundation Governors, appointed by the Archdiocese; Teacher Governors elected by the teaching staff of the school; a Staff Governor who represents the non-teaching staff of the school; Parent Governors elected by parents of our school; Local Authority Governors appointed by Newport City Council, Associate Pupil Governors and the Headteacher of the school.
Governors work together as a team, offering knowledge, skills and expertise to assist in the effective running of the school. The Governing Body has a statutory responsibility to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school and its curriculum. Governors are committed to providing an educational environment where every child is nurtured and given the opportunity to develop and achieve to the best of their ability.
