Please click on the relevant drop-down below to apply for your child to join our school community.
In a change to previous years, all reception and secondary applications in the normal admissions round should be submitted to the council, even if one of the school preferences is a faith school (St Joseph's RC High School).
St Joseph’s RC High School admits up to 240 pupils into each year group. This standard admission number is set by Governors in accordance with the capacity survey completed by Newport City Council and the Welsh Government. If there are more than 240 applications, governors' will use the over-subscription criteria set out in the Admissions Policy.

This year, ALL applications for Year 7 September 2027 must first be completed online, via Newport City Council:
2. St Joseph's RC High School Supplementary Information Form
Once parents/carers have completed the online admissions form through Newport City Council (link above), they must ALSO complete a supplementary information form. Click here for SJHS Supplementary Information Form.
Your application will not be considered complete, and therefore will not be processed, until both the Newport City Council Online Application AND the SJHS Supplementary Form have been submitted.
While completing the SJHS Supplementary Information Form, please remember to upload any required evidence.
For example, baptism certificate or letter from your faith leader.

in-year admissions
Current Year 7 to 11 pupils.

Pupils who do not currently attend St Joseph’s but would like to express an initial interest simply need to email our Sixth Form Admin team on sjhs@newportschools.wales to register their details.
We will require your name, address, contact number and school you currently attend. If you wish to arrange a visit and a tour of the school, this can also be organised.
Next steps
- After your GCSE examinations, you will be asked to attend an interview in early July as part of the admissions process.
- You will be asked to bring with you your most current academic school report. Subject to a satisfactory school report and GCSE grades, you can expect to be accepted into the Sixth Form and will be invited to the enrolment day in September.
- To access Level 3 courses, pupils must have a minimum GCSE attainment of 5 C grades or above (Level 2 Threshold).
